Any Air NZ seat with Fly BuysAir New Zealand and Fly Buys have announced a new partnership that will see 2.3 million active members of the Fly Buys loyalty programme able to redeem their Fly Buys Points for any available seat on any Air New Zealand flight. Meanwhile, the one in five Kiwis who are members of the Air New Zealand Airpoints™ Programme will be able to earn Airpoints Dollars™ by shopping at any of the 3,000 retail outlets across the country that are part of the Fly Buys programme. The changes are planned to come into effect in mid-November, and the specific details of the partnership will be released closer to the time. Airpoints members living in New Zealand will be issued with a new co-branded card, with which they will be able to collect Fly Buys Points that automatically convert into Airpoints Dollars when they make a purchase at a Fly Buys retailer. Fly Buys, which is managed by Loyalty New Zealand, has one of the highest active household penetrations in the world of any loyalty programme. Currently more than half a million of its members already have enough points to redeem a one-way flight between Auckland and Wellington with Air New Zealand. Partnership will help boost domestic tourismThe new partnership between Air New Zealand and Fly Buys announced late last week will provide a welcome boost for domestic tourism, the Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIA) says. “We expect to see many people taking advantage of both loyalty programmes to fly around New Zealand, and experience for themselves the incredible visitor activities and attractions we have available,” TIA chief executive Tim Cossar says. “This will have a really positive effect on our regional destinations. There are 2.3 million active members in the Fly Buys programme, so that means more than half of the New Zealand population will be able to access the improved flights offering as well as collecting Fly Buys points when they buy selected flights.” This will be welcome news to the visitor industry as many emerge from a challenging winter season, he adds.
