“The perfect place to stay” Jun 3, 2010 | Trip type: Couples A combination of the best service, great facilities and spectacular views made Pounamu the perfect place for us. Priscilla and Leo are the best hosts - always willing to give assistance when required and always with a smile. The apartments have all the facilities we required to make our stay a memorable one. The views are spectacular - of the lake and the mountains. We would certainly come back and definitley highly recommend Pounamu to anyone thinking of going to Queenstown. You will not be disappointed. “All the Comforts of Home” May 19, 2010 | Trip type: Friends getaway Our stay at the Pounamu Apartments (5 nights) was just one stop on a 5+ week journey, so it was great to have all the conveniences of home - full kitchen, laundry facilities, computer/internet access. The complex is new, clean, very well appointed, and located just outside of Queenstown. Our luxury unit had 2 bedrooms (each with its own bath and TV), a balcony with views of the lake/mountains, plus an underground parking garage. Staff were very friendly and helped us make reservations to local attractions prior to arrival. “If you want top quality look no further!” May 18, 2010 | Trip type: Couples We stayed for 5 nights and had an upstairs apartment (the ones with balconies). The view of the Remarkables is remarkable! Absolutely picture postcard. The finish and decor of the apartment is to a very high standard with everything you can think of and more, including free internet - even a computer is provided!! Staff are very friendly and helpful if you want anything - full of good advice and suggestions of things to do, see and places to eat, but do not impose themselves on you. Some have comented on the distance to the centre of Queenstown, well to be honest it is a short walk, part of which is uphill, and unless you are a complete wreck not a problem. After some lovely food we found it a welcome part of the evening enjoying the stroll back. (If you are really bothered there are a number of v cheap taxis in town). Also, although sited on the main road to town, traffic noise is only noticeable with the balcony doors open. If you want to spoil yourselves this is the place to stay. “Fabulous!” May 15, 2010 | Trip type: Family Outstanding modern service apartments, with all facilities! great view, both lake & mountains. Can't find a better place than this to live in queenstown !!! “What a wonderful holiday!” May 13, 2010 | Trip type: Couples We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment and loved everything about it. The decor and amenities were great and it was warm and cosy. The location was very convenient with only a 10 minute walk to town, or 15 minutes if we went via the lakeside path which was a lovely scenic walk. The allocated underground parking was good and staff were friendly and helpful. There was also a beautiful view in all directions even from the ground floor apartment we were in. “WOW - Absolutley Amazing!” May 12, 2010 | Trip type: Couples My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in Nov 2009 as part of our month long trip through Australia and New Zealand. Pounamu Apartments was the "luxury" part of our trip and we weren't disappointed. These apartments are absolutely stunning. They are ideally situated - probably about 10 -15 minute walk into Queenstown. Our apartment was spotlessly clean and we had everything we needed - there were even two dishwashers! The apartment provides everything you could possibly need for your stay....fridge, freezer, cooker, toaster, microwave, dishwashers, washing machine, drier, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, 42inch plasma (Lounge), telephone, computer, gas fire and Sky TV! They have free internet as well. When we arrived there were even chocolates on the table for us. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was absolutely amazing! The view from the apartment was absolutely stunning and we sat on the balcony on the first night there and watched the most amazing sunset. The balcony overlooks Lake Wakatipu (I think) and its just absolutely stunning. There are underground car parks with plenty of room to park but there aren't any lifts - but there aren't too many stairs so getting bags up to your room isn't too bad. The only thing that I found quite annoying in the apartment was a window in the bedroom - its right up at the top of the wall (you can see it on the photo), and there weren't any blinds for it. This meant that the lights from outside shone through into the bedroom all night and then in the morning the sun came through first thing. Everything else in the apartment was brilliant and we would happily stay there again. There is so much to do in Queenstown, we went rock climbing and skydiving and also did a bungy jump - its just an amazing place. Check in and check out was quick and easy and the staff are very friendly and will happily point out places to eat and proivde you with a map with supermarkets on etc. We loved our stay here and can't wait to return. “Fantastic apartment - amazing views” May 8, 2010 | Trip type: Couples We booked the Pounamu for 2 nights as our bit of luxury during the trip and wasn't disappointed. Had the 1 bedroom apartment and completely agree with all of the other reviews. View and furnishings etc were just fantastic. There is a remote controlled gas fire, along with a big screen Plasma. Along with this all of the wooden flooring is heated underfloor, and there is also ducted air con/heating right throughout. Full kitchen as well if you want to eat in. Overall it's just fantastic and ticks all the boxes. Outside the room there is a laundry where you can catch up on your washing and drying, all free which is real handy if your mid trip and need to wash - no need for finding a laundry. There is a bit of road noise - but all the glass is doubled glazed so it honestly doesn't bother you enough to ruin your sleep. Internet in the rooms just rounds out the package. All the staff were really helpful. There is a no shoe policy due to the wooden floors - and the manager did say that they had some slippers on order which obviously should be there soon. Don't book the 'studio' room if you are expecting a view - you will be looking out at an empty patch of dirt, they are cheap and would be clean and comfortable and should be fairly quiet as they are further away from the road - but I do think it would be unfair to book these rooms then complain about it - because it does state on all the booking engines that there is no view ! Overall definately deserves its good rating “The best accomodation during our month in New Zealand” May 6, 2010 | Trip type: Couples These are very well furnished and exceptionally well equipped apartments overlooking the lake and within a 15 minute walk to the town centre. The management team are always onsite , and were most helpful in recommeding local activities. We would thoroughly recommend these apartments for short or longer stays. “Great apartments, stylish and comfortable” Apr 21, 2010 | Trip type: Couples We were so glad we picked this place, it had everything we needed to make the trip comfortable, washer, dryer, pots pans etc. and it was all super stylish :o) The only downside was being so close to the road, but it's not so busy so we didn't really mind. Will definatley be back next time we're in town. “Immaculate, top of the range fittings, spacious....oh and what a view!” Apr 20, 2010 | Trip type: Couples On our very first visit to NZ we had just 3 days to 'do' Queenstown - and having stayed in 5 Star hotels for the preceding 2 weeks, decided to book an apartment for that home from home feel (and much needed laundry facilities!). As we often do, we researched via Tripadvsior and as a result booked Pounamu Apartments. From the very minute we entered our Executive One Bedroom we knew we had made the right decision - this place certainly has the WOW factor! If you can tear yourselves away from the stunning views of the lake and The Remarkables through the floor to ceiling windows, you will find the entire apartment to be beautifully furnished and equipped with top of the range applicances. The attention to detail in the design and styling is superb, and for sticklers like us who like everything 'just so', the cleanliness, presentation and maintenance were faultless. So much so that we even decided to 'stay home' one night just so we could make the most of the home comforts! Added to the physical attributes of the apartment, we were very grateful for the help of Priscilla, Leo and the team in providing advice and support in arranging (and re-arranging at the last minute due to weather!) our car hire and Doubtful Sound trip. The team were great and we really appreciated their local knowledge, which helped make our too short stay that much more memorable. In answer to other comments here - yes in a perfect world the road would not be there, and yes it would be great if they provided 'hotel style' slippers to make taking your shoes off more acceptable - which having made this suggestion we understand was already in hand! But these are miniscule points in what truly do have to be the most well appointed apartments you could possibly hope for - so if you're looking for top quality then don't waste time looking elsewhere! Hopefully one day we'll be back! I just wanted to write a quick thank you for your hospitality during our stay in Queenstown. |
